Look beyond the router
Your internet connection may also depend on a modem or optical network terminal. Include all the equipment that needs local power. Backup power at home cannot restore an internet provider’s failed network.
Small loads still need a realistic estimate
A combined 20W networking load over eight hours consumes 160Wh before losses. With our default assumptions of 85% conversion efficiency, 8W inverter overhead and 15% reserve, the planning figure is approximately 297Wh. A 286Wh battery would fall just below that target under these assumptions.
Decide whether you need seamless switching
A restart may interrupt a call or require your equipment to reconnect. If seamless continuity matters, check the documented transfer behavior and compatibility. A portable battery and a dedicated UPS can serve different needs.
Make one useful plan today
List your networking equipment, one efficient light and phone charging. Check each device’s requirements. Add them to the calculator and choose a duration you can realistically cover. You can plan for a few essential hours before considering a larger system.
